ABOUT ME

In spite of her chosen instrument’s reputation as pure novelty, Rhonda has realized within the ukulele an untapped reservoir of sophisticated sound and complexity that provides a pleasantly unexpected complement to her creamy-sweet and sultry vocals. As part of her ongoing songwriting journey, Rhonda seeks to subvert the dominant paradigms regarding ukulele music and continually find new ways to reinvent her instrument and performance.

Rhonda's past collaborations include Houston-based bands: T.R.U.E., Molly & The Ringwalds, and Clouseaux, as well as The Ukuladies (out of Brisbane, Australia). She has helmed The Rhonda Roberts Trio (R2Trio), featuring the talents of Adam Carman and Stancliff Buxley on percussion and bass guitar, respectively. She currently collaborates with Ben Jarrad of Ruckus in the female-male duo Iron Cub and also with Sherita Perez and guesting musicians Juliet Terill, Sean Heyl, Pauly Deathwish, and Adam Carman in Little Spear.

Rhonda's compositions are both timeless and eclectic, rooted in the elegance and fanfare of a nostalgic past, but married to a modern sense of fun and adventure with a quirky and poignant lyrical flair that defies classification. Spanning genres and often blending elements of traditional jazz, cabaret, folk, indie rock and chamber pop, Rhonda’s ukulele repertoire is proof that you can pack a powerful punch in a pint-sized fist.
